You’re an animal! (and Tender Wondersuits giveaway!)

Flamingos, as it turns out, rock Peeper’s world.

We went to the Oregon Zoo recently, and I walked a different route than I typically do. The path took me down a lush section of the park I hadn’t been to since I was a kid. We finally came across some animals, but the bats were asleep and the lizard wasn’t moving, so Peeper seemed more interested in the flowers.

Then we found the flamingos.

She flipped! It’s a good thing there was a glass panel separating us from them because she tried her hardest to get into that pond and see them up close.

She reads books about animals constantly—pointing to each creature and waiting for me to name it (and make its noise, to the best of my ability)—but seeing them in person was a million times better, of course.

Seeing her curious and watching her puzzle out the situation—Is that a dog? No? Is it a cat? No? Then what could it be?—makes me see the animals in a new light, too. I always marvel to get *this* close to such magnificent creatures, but mirroring Peeper’s wonder takes it to a whole new level.

For the outing, I dressed Peeper in this rockin’ Tender Wondersuit romper. Peeper isn’t to the point where she cares about clothes (beyond her preference to run around naked, she doesn’t much care what she wears), and I stick more to practical concerns than aesthetics when I pick her outfits.

Heads up to all the parents who struggle to change their kids’ diapers: The Tender Wondersuit made it so much easier.

I’m not alone in disliking public bathroom changing tables—and wrestling a toddler to get off her pants, unsnap a onesie, wipe a butt, put on a new diaper and get the clothes back on over the shoes. It’s a nightmare. So I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was with the Wondersuit, which is a one-piece romper without zippers, snaps, buttons, velcro or any closures. I just slipped Peeper’s legs out, changed her dipes and slipped her back in. (Is your mind blown? Mine was. Watch this video to see exactly how it works!)

Before you roll your eyes, know that yes, I received a free outfit from the folks over at BabyWit.com (the baby and toddler’s Oregon-made clothes site founded by a Portland mom and entrepreneur). But I genuinely love the Tender Wondersuit. I had flashbacks of curse-whispering at the *&^!#* buttons I had to find and snap each time I changed Newborn Peeper’s diaper in the dark, and I longed to reach back in time and give that sleep-deprived new mother some jammies without snaps.

Excited? Skeptical? Flat-out confused? Give ’em a try. In fact, I’m giving away a $50 credit for BabyWit.com, which you can use for a Tender Wondersuit—or anything else (like this adorable Beastie Boys-inspired onesie).

To enter:
1. Jump on over to BabyWit.com and find something you’d like.
2. Tell me about what you’d get in the comments.
3. Also in your comment, tell me what your favorite animal was when you were a kid! (Mine was a giraffe. Still love ’em.)

If you feel so inclined, you can also check out BabyWit’s Facebook page or Instagram account. I’ll draw a winner on Friday night.

Word to the wise: Tender Wondersuits run a bit big, and they’re a little stretchy, so you’re probably safe getting a smaller one if your little is between sizes.

Enjoy!

Do they make them in adult sizes? (I’m serious. I HATE spending so much time unbuttoning pulling fastening so many layers and THINGS before AND after I go to the bathroom! Oh- is that TMI?) Anyway, I wish it were still summer so I could try this with Peeper. BTW I LOVE the selfie of you and Peeps! And yes, Flamingos are fabulous, especially for H2o babes. xoxo

I can’t wait to take M to the zoo for the first time. We’re planning to visit the Natural History Museum’s Butterfly Pavilion this weekend. She’s at just the right age to be amazed by it all, I think.

These Wondersuits look like magic. Marigold is my favorite color, so I’m into the Flowers on Marigold Tender Wondersuit. Oh, and my favorite animal? Llamas. Llamas until the end of time.

Loni, enjoy the butterfly pavilion! I’d love to see Peeper’s expressions at a cloud of butterflies. Also, the marigold embellished wondersuit is adorable–we have it too, but she’ll have to grow into it. Finally, llamas are great! Llamallamallama.

Okay I lied. Apparently butterfly pavilion has been replaced with SPIDER pavilion. Even better!

I sure hope there isn’t a cloud of them, though! 🙂

Mom loves flamingos, too. Since I don’t have any infants on hand, I’ll let someone else win the give-away. Good luck, all! 🙂

I think I would definitely have to go with a couple of the funky and hipster tees for my little guy! 🙂 My favorite animal was definitely a killer whale, and I find them fascinating to this day.

What a fun trip to the zoo!! How much more magical animals become when a little when you get to experience with your little one! 🙂

I love the Clyde and the Cooper suits- both look cozy, but I’d love to change up the black denim one with different color shirts underneath…

My favorite animal? Hmmm. Probably a cat, because we couldn’t have one. Now, however, it’s a turtle. My daughter and I have been on my husband to let us get a turtle. I think he’s going to cave by summer.

Well geeze I have so many friends with young babes, I’d gift them all a Wondersuit if I could. I’m keen on the squirrel suit. Very cool outfit, thanks for sharing! Edie is adorable in hers!
(And I like that there’s another instructional video calling them “Yankers”. 🙂 )
My fave animal is a baby goat. Can’t go wrong with one of those furry babes tucked inside your coat. Lady with a goat in her coat.
