Then and Now

If you had asked me during my high school years if I ever wanted kids,

my answer would have been a swift and powerful, “No.”

Now, I can’t imagine my life without my kids:

My energy-filled toddler twins who keep me on my toes,

my zesty tween who loves being “momma’s helper,”

and my creative and inspirational teen who never fails to remind me of how much she admires me.

My kids are my joy, and I love them.

I make sure to let them know every day.

I love being a mother.

Yes, some days are harder than others, but the reward comes in the form of four smiling faces that remind me of the reason why I wake up each morning.

My reason for breathing.

So yes, if you had asked me during my high school years if I ever wanted kids,

my answer would have been a loud and vivacious “NO!”

But, now that I am a mom, I could never imagine my life as anything else.

I could have written that myself (except for the tween and teen part)! That was totally ME. Friends were shocked when I finally revealed my pregnancy (with twins!). I was that gal in high school and college who thought I’d never have any. I love our ability as humans to change our minds and embrace that change. I now have 5-year old twins and I am desperately in love with them and my role as their mom. I couldn’t imagine my life any different (nor do I want to!). Cheers and Happy Mother’s Day!

I also went through a years-long period when I didn’t want kids. Pregnancy terrified me! Now, I realize, pregnancy and labor are a cake walk compared to everything that comes after! HA!

Happy early Mother’s Day back atcha!

Oh mama… me TOO. I didn’t really give much thought to kids at all. I was pretty happy in my dream of becoming some high-powered lady that wore heels to work and drank lattes all day long and cocktails all night long. Now, well, life feels a lot more rich than it did before. My dreams now include providing for my sons and showing them what a rich life really looks like (and it has very little to do with money). Beautiful poem. Happy (early) Mother’s Day!

What a wonderful lesson to learn—and impart to our kids. A rich life has little to do with money—so true! Hugs, Jenni!

Such a great idea for a series! Thanks for introducing us to Sandra. I am sure having toddler twins and a tween keeps her on her toes!

Yes! I’m busy with just two kids—I can barely imagine 4, despite the fact I’m one of 4!

    Happy Mother’s Day!

You know, my husband and I agreed before marriage that we wouldn’t have children. But as time went by we both changed our minds and I’m so thankful for that!

It’s one of the beautiful things about us as humans: we have the power to change our minds. Good thing!
