Glitter marble painting: Kid crafts

Glitter gets a bad rap: It sticks to everything, makes its way into every crevice in your house and can apparently scratch a kid’s cornea—yada yada yada. But I am a Glitter Cheerleader.

I love the way glitter catches the light. I wear a craft project’s collateral glitter with pride, even days later. (Doesn’t glitter in your hair or on your blazer just say, “I’m a mom of a preschooler and I’m not afraid to flaunt it!”) And I love the way Peeper gets so freaking excited whenever I suggest we do a glitter art project.

The other day, when I suggested we try something new—glitter marble painting—was no exception. Her face lit up like a glittered disco ball.

You've tried marble painting, but what about GLITTER marble painting? Your kids will love this easy process art! Ten Thousand Hour Mama

A new kind of marble painting

You’ve probably seen marble painting on Pinterest: Dipping marbles into paint then swirling them around in a box, pan or tupperware is a great process art project that creates beautiful results.

Peeper is a giant fan of marble painting. Much to her dismay, I limit marble painting to times when Kiwi isn’t napping, since I swear the clanging of all those marbles in a jelly roll pan will wake up my baby. And as gorgeous as her marble paintings are, they’re not worth a tired, cranky, crying 1-year-old.

Bring on the glitter!

The other day, I thought we’d break out the marbles (which Peeper calls “marvels.” CUTE!) Then I had an inspiration: Why not make it glitter marble painting?

*cue the choir*

Glitter marble painting: This gorgeous craft is so easy, I'm shocked I didn't do it sooner. Ten Thousand Hour MamaMy preschooler loves glitter and glue crafts, so voila: Glitter marble painting! Ten Thousand Hour Mama

If your kids—or you—are fans of glitter, too, try glitter marble painting the next time you need a new craft project. And even if you don’t love glitter, give it a try. (Still skeptical? Did you know you can use a sticky lint roller to clean up all the spilled glitter dusted over your furniture? See, cleanup can be easy!)

You may just be converted and become a Glitter Cheerleader like me.

Glitter Marble Painting instructions

Supplies

  • White glue
  • Loose glitter
  • Marbles
  • Paper
  • A box, jelly roll pan or another container with an edge
  • Painter’s tape
  • A paper plate or plastic lid

Instructions

  1. Fit your paper into your box or pan, cutting it to size. Secure it to the container with painter’s tape.
  2. Pour a generous amount of glue onto a plastic lid.
  3. Coat a marble in glue. Place it on the paper and tip the container back and forth, rolling the marble all over the paper. Coat and add more marbles.
  4. Acting quickly so the glue doesn’t dry, sprinkle glitter onto the glue. Shake off the excess glitter.
  5. Let dry.

My kids love glitter and glue crafts, so voila: Glitter Marble Painting process art! Ten Thousand Hour Mama

What about you—are you pro-glitter or anti-glitter?

How fun! Every thing is messy with my kids so I say bring on the glitter! It’s nothing the vacuum can’t clean up later, and if the kids are learning and having fun it’s totally worth it!!!

Next time you put marbles in a pan for marble painting, put a piece of felt underneath the paper — Max will sleep right through the craft because there won’t be any noise!!! A tried and true teacher trick for marbles, dice, and dominoes! Xoxo
