DIY kids holiday gift: Glitter handprint craft

Y’all know how much I love glitter. So when I went to make a present for my mom, aka the girls’ grandmother and a Nana who has just about everything, I knew I wanted it to sparkle. So Peeper and I made this: a glitter handprint craft that will be a gorgeous, special and one-of-a-kind Christmas gift.

(Sorry, Mom, to spoil the surprise!)

We still have a few weeks until Christmas and other December holidays, but if you’re looking for a DIY kids craft to give as a gift, look no further than this fun, simple—and yes, sparkly—glitter handprint craft!

Glitter handprints are a beautiful - but easy - handmade holiday gift kids will love to make. Ten Thousand Hour Mama

A heartfelt, handmade holiday gift

Visitors to this blog already know how any painting project turns into a full-body experience for Peeper. So when I not only tolerated but encouraged her to paint her hand—with glue, no less—Peeper was all-in this craft project.

And when I broke out the glitter, well, the only way she would have been more excited was if I’d told her Lily the elephant was going to join us.

I love that a glitter handprint craft is easy but looks stunning. It’s quick, which means you can make a handful of them (sorry, pun!) for all the grandparents. And it’s literally handmade—a good gift for family members who don’t need a watch or a bath robe or any other doodad you can buy at the store.

We ended up doing a glitter handprint from me and from Peeper (since Kiwi was napping and she’d probably just eat the glue anyway). That way, the gift to Nana was from both of us.

So if you’re looking for a handmade Christmas present to gift the grandparents—or anyone else in the family—try a glitter handprint craft. It’ll surely add some sparkle to your holiday.

Glitter handprint craft

Supplies

  • Cardstock paper
  • White glue
  • Plastic lid or paper plate, for glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Loose glitter
  • Newspaper or table cloth to protect your work surface
  • Photo frame (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lay out newspaper over your table. Set cardstock paper in front of your child.
  2. Squirt a small puddle of glue onto the plastic lid. Have your child paint the glue onto her hand. Help her to cover the whole hand.
  3. Guide her hand onto the paper and press it down with fingers spread, making a handprint.
  4. Repeat with the other hand alongside the first handprint.
  5. You’ll want to wash her hands, but do so quickly—don’t let the glue to dry yet!
  6. Have your child shake glitter over the glue handprint, covering all the white. Shake off the excess glitter.
  7. Let dry, and frame if you like!

What was the most memorable handmade gift you’ve ever received?

That’s so cute!! Nice take on handprint art!

For my husband’s office holiday party this past weekend he did a glitter beard with tons of gel and multicolored glitter. It was quite the hit.
